CITY OF COLTON <br />CITY LIBRARIAN <br />DEFINITION <br />Under administrative direction, to plan, organize, coordinate and <br />direct the operations and activities of the Library; and to <br />provide highly responsible professional and technical staff <br />assistance. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives policy direction from the Board of Trustees of the <br />Colton Public Library, and administrative direction from the City <br />Manager. <br />Responsible for the direct supervision of professional, <br />technical and clerical staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the operations and <br />activities of the Library. <br />Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies and <br />procedures including book selection and acquisition policies and <br />standards; carry out policy of the Library Board of Trustees. <br />Interpret Library policy set by the Library Board of Trustees to <br />staff and the public. <br />Attend meetings of and prepare reports for the Library Board of <br />Trustees and provide technical and professional advice and <br />recommendations related to levels of service and other library - <br />related matters; act as liaison between Board and City. <br />Respond to and resolve the most difficult citizen inquiries and <br />complaints. <br />Prepare, monitor and administer the department budget, maintaining <br />appropriate budgetry controls; direct the preparation of library <br />activity reports. <br />Represent the City and Library in the community and at <br />professional meetings as required. <br />Coordinate library system activities with other City departments <br />and outside agencies. <br />Coordinate museum and cultural affairs activities and programs. <br />1 <br />
