CITY OF COLTON <br />SANITATION SUPERVISOR <br />DEFINITION <br />Under general supervision, plans, organizes and directs the work <br />of several crews performing refuse collection and disposal work; <br />performs related work as assigned. <br />CLASS CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is the first-line supervisory level in refuse collection and <br />disposal work. The incumbent plans, organizes, schedules, <br />assigns and directs the work of crews and provides technical <br />assistance as necessary. This class is distinguished from <br />Sanitation Superintendent which is a division head responsible <br />for the entire refuse collection program. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br />Plans; organizes, schedules, assigns, supervise, and evaluates <br />the work of crews engaged in refuse collection and disposal <br />activities; dispatches crews; makes field inspections to <br />evaluate operations and job performance; instructs and provides <br />for the training of crew members in work methods, use of tools <br />and equipment and relevant safety precautions; recommends and <br />implements disciplinary action as necessary; estimates personnel, <br />material and equipment requirements for assigned jobs; provides <br />technical assistance of crews in resolving difficult problems <br />encountered; prepares and maintains a variety of reports and <br />records, including timecards worksheets, route books, accident <br />reports, maintenance requests, etc.; orders and maintains an <br />adequate inventory to accomplish assigned jobs; responds to <br />questions and complaints from the public; recommends special <br />work required or necessary equipment maintenance; reviews work <br />upon completion; ensures appropriate safety devices and equipment <br />are being utilized; conducts safety meetings coordinates <br />activities with other affected agencies; acts for the Sanitation <br />Superintendent on a relief basis; participates in meetings as <br />required; responds to emergency situations as necessary; inspects <br />contract work for conformity to specifications; directs remedial <br />action as necessary. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of: <br />Methods, tools and equipment used in refuse collection and <br />disposal operations. Principles and practices of employee <br />supervision, including selection, training, work evaluation <br />and discipline. Safe work methods and safety practices <br />pertaining to the work.
