City of Colton <br />Library Clerk I/II (Continued) <br />Page 2 <br />shipment to other library locations; prepares a variety of <br />periodic and special library processing and activities reports <br />for supervisory review; maintains records and files related to <br />library services activities and projects; assists in a variety of <br />assigned special projects and services. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Note: The level and scope of the knowledge and skills listed <br />below are related to job duties as defined under Class <br />Characteristics. <br />Knowledge of: <br />General municipal library services, organization and <br />functions. Basic public desk etiquette and methods of <br />providing information. Basic business arithmetic. Basic <br />office practices and procedures. Use of standard office <br />equipment including the use of computerized equipment. <br />Skill in• <br />Following oral and written directions. Dealing tactfully <br />and effectively with a variety of individuals, including <br />patrons, library staff and the general public,. Making <br />accurate arithmetic computations to determine library <br />overdue fees, cash balances and related tasks. Making sound <br />judgment and decisions within established guidelines. <br />Interpreting library procedures and operational manuals. <br />Directing and instructing Library Aides and volunteers. <br />Performing office support work, including typing and filing. <br />Operating standard office equipment including a typewriter, <br />word processor and/or computer equipment. <br />Note: Specialized positions may require typing at a speed of <br />40 net works per minute from printed copy. <br />Other Requirements: <br />Must be willing work evenings and weekends. <br />A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills outlined <br />above is: <br />Library Clerk I: Equivalent to graduation from high school. <br />Library Clerk II: In addition to the above, one year of <br />experience involving public information and office support <br />duties, equivalent to the class of Library Clerk II, <br />preferably in a library setting. <br />
