CITY OF COLTON <br />ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER <br />DEFINITION <br />This is a highly responsible professional administrative position <br />assisting the City Manager in general or specific areas of <br />responsibility. <br />Under general supervision of the City Manager, this position is <br />responsible for -a variety of administrative functions and <br />activities. Supervision is exercised through department heads <br />over a large staff of professional, technical, administrative, <br />clerical, skilled and unskilled personnel. Work is reviewed for <br />overall effectiveness through conferences and reports. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Administrative direction is provided by the City Manager. <br />Responsible for the direct supervision of professional, technical <br />and clerical staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br />Acts for the City Manager when designated to do so. <br />Plan, organize and direct the activities of assigned departments; <br />review departmental programs and provide general leadership and <br />direction thereto. <br />Plan, organize and direct the activities of the City including a <br />centralized accounting system, investment and cash management, <br />revenue collection, licensing, purchasing and data processing <br />services. <br />Coordinate the preparation, implementation and control of the <br />City's annual operating and capital improvement budget; forecast <br />City revenues, expenditures and year end balances. <br />Supervise directly or through department heads a staff of <br />administrative, professional, technical and clerical employees. <br />Hold staff meetings and departmental conferences to consider and <br />determine policy issues; participate in conferences with other <br />governmental officials to arrive at solutions of mutual problems. <br />Represent the City Manager in meetings with business and other <br />citizen groups on city needs and problems; advise and provide <br />general leadership to civic organizations dealing with specific <br />problems affecting the City's welfare. <br />May prepare grant applications and seek sources of revenue for <br />departmental programs. <br />
