The class is distinguished from the journey level in
one of two ways:
- Routine and repetitive duties are performed according to
established procedures and changes in procedures or exceptions to
rules are explained in detail as they arise.
- Use as a training class for flexibly staffed positions.
In the latter use, the incumbents of the class would lack a complete
knowledge of department procedures and precedents and not yet be able to
perform the full range of duties assigned to the journey level without
immediate supervision.
METER TECHNICIAN - This is the journey level class in the Meter Technician
series. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally
filled by advancement from the apprentice level, or, when filled from the
outside, require prior electric meter maintenance experience. Appointment
to the journey level requires that the employee be performing the full
range of duties and meet the qualification standards for the class. A
Meter Technician is distinguished from a Meter Technician Apprentice in
that incumbents of positions assigned to the journey level are expected to
perform assigned duties with only occasional instruction or assistance, and
work is normally reviewed only upon completion. Adequate performance at
this level requires the knowledge of general meter maintenance procedures,
methods and techniques as well as a knowledge of applicable Department
policies and procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
METER TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE
- Receives immediate supervision from the Meter Operations Supervisor.
METER TECHNICIAN
- Receives general supervision from the Meter Operations Supervisor.
- May provide functional and/or technical supervision to lower level
technical staff.
