FIRE DIVISION CHIEF <br />DEFINITION <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />Performs administrative and managerial functions for a major <br />division of the Fire Department; and provides highly responsible <br />and technical staff assistance as a member of the fire management <br />team. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Fire Chief. <br />Exercises direct and indirect supervision over technical and <br />clerical staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Plan, organize, develop, coordinate and direct divisional <br />activity relating to fire prevention, suppression, training, <br />inspection, investigation or Emergency Services. <br />Select, supervise, train and evaluate personnel assigned to the <br />division. <br />Develop and implement division work schedules with other fire <br />divisions, departments and outside agencies; assign materials and <br />equipment in order to achieve maximum efficiency, effectiveness <br />and expediency in response time. <br />Develop recommendations for the department budget; monitor and <br />administer the budget. <br />Work with other management staff to maintain, revise or improve <br />the overall operation of the Fire Department; formulate and <br />administer divisional rules, regulations and procedures. <br />Identify problem areas, make recommendations for improving fire <br />service, and coordinate mutual and automatic aid programs with <br />other jurisdictions. <br />Direct the preparation and maintenance of statistical and <br />activity reports regarding emergency incidents, fire prevention, <br />and fire investigation and inspection activities. <br />May direct fire fighting operations for structural fires and <br />major emergencies; and may assume command of Fire Department in <br />the absence of the Fire Chief. <br />Participate in public education programs. <br />May be required to make presentations in schools, service clubs <br />or other public gatherings, on fire and burn prevention. <br />Performs related duties as assigned. <br />
