CITY OF COLTON <br />Fire Division Chief <br />Page 2 <br />DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of• <br />Principles, practices and methods of modern fire <br />suppression, prevention and investigation as well as <br />emergency medical services. <br />Fire and emergency medical apparatus, equipment, tools, <br />devices, facilities and their proper utilization, and <br />maintenance requirements. <br />Principles and practices of supervision, scheduling, <br />performance evaluation, employee development and training. <br />Standard procedures and policies of the City and Fire <br />Department. <br />Ability to• <br />Make sound decisions and direct operations at the scene of <br />an alarm. <br />Plan, organize and coordinate the work of subordinate <br />personnel. <br />Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in <br />writing. <br />Administer and evaluate suppression, prevention, <br />investigation and emergency medical programs. <br />Interpret, implement and enforce department rules and state, <br />federal and local laws. <br />Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships <br />with those encountered in the performance of duties. <br />Experience and Training <br />Any combination of experience and training that would likely <br />provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. <br />A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would <br />be: <br />Experience• <br />Six years of progressively responsible work experience <br />in fire suppression, prevention, investigation and <br />Emergency Medical Services, including three years <br />supervisory experience. <br />
