SENIOR POLICE SERVICES CLERK <br />DEFINITION <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />Performs a wide variety of highly complex clerical duties in the <br />Police Department; performs complex data entry and word processing <br />work; may supervise subordinate clerical personnel. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This class may be distinguished from other clerical classes by the <br />complexity of work performed. Positions in this class may require <br />advanced knowledge of data entry, word processing and the use of <br />specialized equipment. Senior Police Services Clerk is a unique <br />position as it is the only support position that handles all <br />clerical duties for an entire division of the Police Department. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general supervision from management, professional, <br />technical or higher level clerical positions. <br />May exercise functional or technical supervision over lower level <br />clerical classes. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Compose letters and reports on routine matters using correct <br />sentence structure, grammar and spelling. <br />Screen phone calls and visitors, referring inquiries to appropriate <br />individual as necessary; deal with confidential informants, <br />criminal suspects, and/or crime victims; obtain information <br />correctly and route messages to correct person or appropriate <br />local, state and/or federal agencies; respond to requests for <br />information regarding departmental policies and procedures. <br />Relieve the supervisor of routine clerical duties. <br />Act as liaison between the supervisor or detectives and the public <br />or other employees. <br />Research and compile complex statistical data for special projects <br />and reports. <br />Type reports, forms, memoranda, correspondence to courts, verbatim <br />interviews, search warrants, affidavits and other materials from <br />straight copy, transcriber and oral dictation. <br />1 <br />
