CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT (Continued)
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF April 5. 1994
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION REVISING ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT
CUSTOMER SERVICE POLICY NUMBER 25 RELATING TO
COMMERCIAL LIGHTING REBATE PROGRAM
DISCUSSION
A total of $25,000 has been set aside in Fiscal Year 1993-1994 for conducting a commercial
lighting rebate program. The Electric Department plans on continuing this program in Fiscal Year
1994-1995.
Several electric utilities in California have commercial lighting rebate programs including Southern
California Edison Company, the City of Pasadena, and the City of Anaheim. Rebates for more
efficient lighting systems act as an incentive to the customer and allow energy saving lighting
projects to be more cost-effective. The Electric Utility benefits from reduction in peak electric
demand on the system.
Staff evaluated the commercial lighting rebate program in terms of costs and benefits. Benefits in
terms of purchased power cost savings exceed program implementation costs.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funding for this program exists in the current Fiscal year 1993-1994 Electric Department budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve revised Customer Service Policy Number 25, and
adopt the foregoing resolution.
City Manager's Concurrence:
Report prepared by: Robert Buell, senior Energy Services Specialist
Page 2 of 2 Item No.
