AGENDA REPORT CITY OF COLTON Office of the City Attorney For City Council Meeting of December 20, 1994 December 12, 1994 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: Julie Hayward Biggs, City Attoe SUBJECT: Appointment of Members of Com issions and Committees As requested at the adjourned meeting of the City Council held on December 7, 1994, the attached ordinance has been prepared for consideration by the City Council. If adopted, this ordinance would remove the requirement that members of City Commissions and Committees reside in the electoral district of the City Councilmember responsible for making the appointment. Such commissioners and committee members remain responsible for representing the electoral district of the councilmember who is responsible for the appointment, however. The proposed ordinance also empowers any other councilmember to nominate individuals to serve on commissions or committees within the City in the event that the City Councilmember responsible for a particular appointment fails to make such an appointment. Finally, the proposed ordinance makes it clear that if a commissioner or committee member misses three consecutive meetings of the commission or committee to which he or she is appointed, a vacancy will be deemed to have been created. Vacancies are to be filled in the same way as initial appointments are made. Ccu ence: g Ci Manae
