HALL, FIRE CHIEF <br />SUBJECT: Public Hearing for Fall Weed Abatement Program DATE: October 27, 1994 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On February 15, 1994, City Council adopted Resolution # R-19-94, giving the Fire Chief authority <br />to give notice to property owners where weeds or rubbish may constitute a public nuisance and <br />which must be abated. <br />In addition, the resolution authorizes the Fire Chief to direct the City's contractor in performing <br />the work, to charge an administrative fee, and to place all fees on the San Bernardino County tax <br />rolls for collection. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City's Weed Abatement Program is conducted in two parts: <br />9. Spring - with the primary emphasis on weeds and annual grasses and; <br />2. Fall - with the primary emphasis on tumbleweeds <br />At this time, the City is entering into the Fall Program. Notices have been sent, in accordance <br />with the Health and Safety Code, and abatement proceeding are scheduled to begin November 2, <br />1994. <br />At this time, a public hearing is required to hear any objections by property owners who are liable <br />to be assessed for the abatement. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Staff recommends Council's approval to begin the Fall Weed Abatement Program. <br />DGH:AJS:TG <br />Attachment (1) <br />CITY MANAGER'S CONCURRENCE: <br />Page 1 of 1 Item No. <br />
