orPorat., <br />1887 <br />180-0--aw. .% <br />lfOT <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of October 4, 1994 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: September 27, 1994 <br />FROM: JOHN HUTTON <br />Public Works Director <br />SUBJECT: RECOMMENDATION OF TRAFFIC COMMITTEE TO INSTALL DIAGONAL PARKING AT <br />VARIOUS LOCATIONS ALONG 7TH STREET, 9TH STREET, "M" STREET, "D" <br />STREET AND "F" STREET INCLUDING STOP INTERSECTION IF AUTHORIZED <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Diagonal Parking has been used as an alternative to parallel parking in <br />several locations throughout the community, particularly in the areas zoned <br />Mixed Use. <br />In most cases diagonal parking has been found to be useful as it can create <br />additional spaces over parallel parking. <br />The downfall to diagonal parking is that the street must be wide enough to <br />accommodate diagonal parking and still be of a width capable of safely <br />allowing two way traffic. <br />Additionally to successfully provide more parking spaces and create the <br />necessary clearance along the curb face at intersections for visibility <br />purposes, diagonal parking spaces require that no or very few driveways <br />exist. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The two areas reviewed by the Traffic Committee were: <br />Area 1) 7th Street "L" to "N", and certain portions of "M" Street <br />along the south side and adjacent to existing on site <br />parking lots <br />Diagonal parking can be utilized on one side to increase the <br />number of available spaces compared to parallel parking and <br />the width is suitable to accommodate two way traffic. <br />Therefore diagonal parking could be placed as follows: <br />a) 7th Street along the east curb line (north bound between "N" <br />Street and "L" Street <br />ANN -- -- ."'-�-- <br />
