PRESS RELEASE <br />At its Tuesday, July 2, 2002 meeting, the Colton City Council recommended that the City of Colton enter into a <br />"Sister Cities Agreement" with the Municipality of Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico. <br />Becoming Sister Cities is not so much a financial obligation as it is an agreement enabling us to share our cultures. <br />In essence, the sister cities relationship will be established by both cities entering into an official agreement in order <br />to develop a variety of joint programs of cooperation and exchange for the benefit of both cities and populations. <br />The agreement will constitute a bond of cooperation where both parties develop programs of collaboration that will <br />have as primary objectives, the exchange of initiatives and experiences of areas of mutual interest. <br />The parties will give priority status to the following: <br />• Commercial Promotion <br />• 0 Political Cooperation <br />• Investment Promotion <br />• 0 Educational Cooperation <br />• 0 Cultural Promotion <br />• Tourism Promotion <br />On July 5, 2002 the Mayor of Rio Grande, and possibly the Governor of Zacatecas will be in Colton to formalize the <br />Sister City Agreement with a ceremony. The ceremony will take place at Fleming Park, on Friday, July 5, 2002 <br />from 5:00 - 6:30 P.M.
