86 <br />Mr. Young advised this item had been budgeted in the 1974-75 budget. <br />On motion of Councilwoman Spragins, seconded by Councilman Hayes and unanimously passed, <br />Council authorized Staff to advertise for bids for a 3/4 ton pickup truck for the street <br />division. <br />CITY MANAGER REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Request permission to advertise for bids for Line Truck and 3/4 ton pickup truck. <br />City Manager Huffaker stated Staff requests permission to advertise for bids on a prototype <br />line truck, to replace a 1963 Ford, and also a 3/4 ton pickup truck, to replace an older <br />truck, for the Electric Department, <br />Mr. Huffaker said these items are budgeted for in the 1974-75 budget. <br />On motion of Councilwoman Spragins, seconded by Councilman Rehrer and unanimously passed, <br />Council authorized Staff to advertise for bids for line truck and 3/4 ton pickup truck for <br />the Electric Department. <br />Request permission to advertise for bids for Safety Equipment for the Police Department. <br />Mr. Huffaker advised that during this year's budget considerations, the City Council approved <br />the purchase of safety equipment for the Police Department, and this action was in accordance <br />with a recent court decision involving the City of Oakland. <br />Mr. Huffaker continued it is requested that the City Council authorize the Staff to proceed <br />with advertising for bids for the following items: <br />32 <br />model 59 automatic pistols <br />32 <br />belts <br />32 <br />magazines <br />32 <br />ammunition carriers <br />2000 rounds ammunition <br />32 <br />Baton rings <br />32 <br />duty holsters <br />32 <br />pair handcuffs <br />32 <br />handcuff cases <br />6 <br />detective holsters <br />Councilman Rehrer asked if this pistol has been tested and proven safe for use by our Police <br />Department. <br />Acting Police Chief Phil Elliott stated that surveys have been made throughout California and <br />Nevada regarding this weapon, and it has been proven superior to all other pistols of this kind. <br />On motion of Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilwoman Spragins and unanimously passed, <br />Council authorized Staff to advertise for bids for Safety Equipment for the Police Department. <br />Request to purchase breaker for Substation - Electric Department. <br />Mr. Huffaker reported that during this year's budget sessions, the City Council approved the <br />purchase,of a 12 KV, 1200 Amp Breaker for the new substation. <br />Mr. Huffaker advised the only company that manufactures a breaker that fits in our substation <br />is Allis-Chalmer, and the purchase price is in excess of $6,000 which requires the City to <br />advertise for bids. <br />Mr. Huffaker said due to the fact that Allis Chalmer is the only company that makes the type <br />of breaker that can be installed in the City's substation, it is recommended: that the Staff <br />be authorized to purchase the Allis-Chalmer breaker. <br />Mr. Huffaker stated the City Attorney has advised the minutes should reflect the fact that <br />Allis-Chalmer is the only eligible bidder. <br />On motion of Councilman Rehrer, seconded by Councilman Gonzales and unanimously passed, Council <br />authorized Staff to purchase a 12 KV, 1200 Amp Breaker for the substation of our Electric <br />Department from Allis-Chalmer Company. <br />California Portland Cement Company's Conversion of Gas Fuel to Petroleum, Coke and Coal. <br />Mr. Huffaker stated the Council members have received a report from the Director of Planning <br />and Special Services indicating that the California Portland Cement Company has submitted a <br />site approval application to the County of San Bernardino for its fuel conversion project. <br />Mr. Huffaker continued the Air Pollution Control District indicates the conversion will result <br />in a reduction in pollutants in the air. <br />Mr. Huffaker advised there would be no action necessary by our City Council on this matter, <br />unless the Coupgil is in opposition to the conversion. <br />Mayor Huntoon thanked Staff for the report. <br />CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Claim: Norman S. Fink and Norman Engineering Company versus the City of Colton. <br />Assistant City Attorney Edwards advised that Mr. Joe Stell, of Stell and Levine, Attorneys <br />for Norman S. Fink and Norman Engineering Company, is here this evening regarding a Claim <br />against the City of Colton concerning a contract for expansion of the Water Quality Control <br />Sewage Treatment Plant. <br />AUG 2 01974 <br />
