<br />with Neste, Brudin & Stone, Inc. for engineering services regarding sewer assessment project. Vote was unanimous.
<br />GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES
<br />County Flood Control/Right-of-Way
<br />Mr. Young reported from his memorandum dated August 14, 1975, requesting authorization for the Mayor and City Clerk
<br />to execute a Grant Deed between the City of Colton and the County Flood Control District, dedicating the right-of-
<br />way of two parcels in the Santa Ana. River floodway; the larger parcel located at the present Water Quality Control
<br />Plant site, and the smaller parcel at the old City dump site on Agua. Mansa Road.
<br />Moved by Councilwoman Spragins, seconded by Councilman Gonzales, authorizing Mayor and City Clerk to execute Grant
<br />Deed between City of Colton and County Flood Control District for right-of-way dedication. Unanimous vote.
<br />PARKS
<br />Playground Equipment
<br />Mr. Young advised that on August 12, Staff received bids on furnishing, delivering and installing playground equip-
<br />ment from Jensen Construction Company.
<br />Mr. Young said Staff recommends the award be made for the Jamison Model #111-174, Imagine City in the amount of
<br />$30,267.88, to Jensen Construction Company.
<br />Moved by Councilman Gonzales, seconded by Councilman Hayes, to award bid to Jensen Construction Company in the amount
<br />of $30,267.88 for playground equipment. Vote was unanimous.
<br />APPROPRIATIONS
<br />Chamber of Commerce/Girls Softball League
<br />Mr. Roy W. Martin, 22111 Newport, Colton, addressed the Council members on behalf of the Colton Grand Terrace Senior
<br />All Stars Miss Softball America baseball team.
<br />Mr. Martin advised the girls have won the Western Regional Tournament and are now eligible to compete in the
<br />National Championship Tournament to be held in Florida.
<br />Mr. Martin continued that in the past the team has usually had sufficient time to raise funds for their activities,
<br />traveling, etc., however, in this instance, they have only several days to raise approximately $2,000 for the trip
<br />to Florida.
<br />Mr. Martin stated the City can be justly proud of these girls as they have really made a name for Colton wherever
<br />they have appeared, always exhibiting a well mannered and sportsman-like conduct.
<br />Mr. Martin concluded on behalf of the entire baseball team and all involved, he would respectfully request a dona-
<br />tion from the City Council for the team's trip to Florida.
<br />Mayor Huntoon stated that although he is extremely proud of the entire team and what they have done for the City
<br />of Colton, he feels this is an untimely request and could possibly set a precedent for other activities and organi-
<br />zations.
<br />Councilman Gonzales said that the City of Colton has always been a very sports -minded town, he feels the girls have
<br />done a tremendous job and that they definitely deserve the assistance.
<br />Councilman Gonzales moved that the City of Colton appropriate the amount of $500. for the Miss Softball America trip
<br />to Florida. Motion seconded by Councilman Hayes.
<br />Councilwoman Spragins suggested that inasmuch as the 1975-76 Budget has not been finalized and officially approved,
<br />possibly the City could allocate $1,000., from the Chamber of Commerce Budget, for Community Promotion, to the Miss
<br />Softball America Team for their trip to Florida.
<br />Councilman Gonzales said in that case, he will withdraw his motion if Councilwoman Spragins desires to put her
<br />suggestion in the form of a motion. Councilman Hayes stated he would withdraw his second to the motion.
<br />Moved by Councilwoman Spragins, seconded by Councilman Gonzales, to appropriate $1,000 from the Chamber of Commerce
<br />Budget, Community Promotion, for the Miss Softball America Baseball Team. Vote was unanimous.
<br />Moved by Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilwoman Spragins, to present the Miss Softball America Baseball Team
<br />with a Proclamation commending them for their achievements. Unanimous vote.
<br />CITY MANAGER REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATTONS!
<br />AWARDS
<br />Elizabeth Davis Park/Rotary Field
<br />City Manager Huffaker referred to a memorandum dated August 19, 1975, from Recreation Director Max Lofy regarding
<br />dedication of Elizabeth Davis Park and Rotary Field, planned for some time in September.
<br />Mr. Huffaker advised that Staff is requesting a determination on the dedication plaque for the park, and read
<br />several alternatives that the Council might consider.
<br />Moved by Councilman Gonzales, seconded by Councilwoman Spragins, to have dedication plaques list the Council members
<br />at the time of dedication. Vote was unanimous.
<br />ELECTRICAL CODE
<br />Ordinance No. 1479
<br />Mr. Huffaker reported from a memorandum dated August 19, 1975, from Director of Building and Safety John Twiss,
<br />requesting adoption of the Uniform Wiring Code, 1975 Edition, which will update the City's electrical wiring code
<br />to meet State regulations and also conform with regulations of the surrounding area.
<br />Moved by Councilwoman Spragins, seconded by Councilman Gonzales, to approve first reading of Ordinance No. 1479 and
<br />waive further reading. Vote was unanimous.
