3958
RECESS:
Council recessed at 7:47 p. m. and reconvened at 7:55 p. m., all Members present.
Teleprompter Cable T.V.
Area Marketing Director, Mr. Dick Waterman and Business Manager, Mr. Bruce Douglas,
represented Teleprompter Corporation.
Mr. Waterman stated Teleprompter was the worlds largets, has the most experience,
operates basically on a microwave system, has a 35 channel capability, would fill
28 channels initially and build to capacity. Mr. Waterman further stated the
company is able to extend very realistic rates, would serve all of Colton with
construction time being 9 months to one year, as to local orgination; the city
would have access to a channel and portable cameras, a studio is not proposed.
Mr. Waterman stated that Teleprompter did not want to propose an "over package"
system, that would have high original costs passed on to consumers and that
would not be realistic for this community. Mr. Waterman said they would be
able, by separate agreement with the City, to guarantee their rate proposal for
two years, under AB 699.
Televents, Inc., Cable T.V.
Mr. Richard Glascock said their proposal is an amplification of what they are
serving in the City of Redlands and is the same as proposed by the other com-
panies with the exception of the burglar and medical services. Mr. Glascock stated
that technically these services are not ready for marketing and are in some ways
being provided already by private business and the telephone company plans to pro-
vide a medical service.
Mr. Glascock reported Televents would carry 26 channels and increase to 29 in
February, they would maintain a business office in Colton, would not build a
studio, and have.a 6 to 9 month construction time with an overall channel capa-
bility of 36 channels.
Mayor Gonzales thanked all the companies for being present to address the Council
regarding their proposals and extended Mr. Hudson and Mr. Lackner the Council's
appreciation for their participation.
City Manager Gonzales said at this point, his recommendation would be to think
about setting a meeting to discuss and decide on award of franchise. Mr. Gonzales
said the Council could at thier next meeting of December 18, 1979, set such a date.
Community Centers
Peter S.
