continuing to talk about it. Mr. Demchuk said when you come down to the bottom
213
line in any disposition or settlement, it serves no purpose for one side to tell
the other that they won, or try to claim that someone is a loser or someone is the
winner, because of the fact that there has to be some give and take on both sides,
and some compromise reached, otherwise there is no possibility of reaching a solu-
tion to these kinds of problems.
Mr. Demchuk then recommended that the Council and the. City re-evaluate and recon-
sider the Ordinance pertaining to the position of City Manager.
Mr. Demchuk thanked the City Council and the people of the City of Colton for the
opportunity to have served, stating it had been a pleasure, and thanked everyone
for the good judgement and for the compassion and understanding that was demon-
strated to him, as an outsider, in the handling of this matter.
Mr. Demchuk concluded he had no further comment to make -except that he whole-heart-
edly concurred with the action that had been taken and commended the Council for
what they had done.
Councilman Rehrer stated he wanted everyone to know that he was not in accord with
the Agreement, but to back up his colleagues, he voted to accept it.
0) Mayor Gonzales stated that although he regrets the departure of Mr. Calabrese, he
(Y) was pleased that he and the Council were able to reach a mutually acceptable agree-
ment, which will allow the City Manager to depart gracefully, with an unblemished
< record, and also allow the City Council to return to its primary purpose as elect-
ed officials of tending to the business of running the City for the good of all
the constituents. Mayor Gonzales concluded he still believes that Mr. Calabrese
Q did a good job as City Manager, and he is not in accord with his resignation.
Mayor Gonzales announced that the City Council would take a five minute recess.
Mr. Salvador Ayala, President of the Colton Chapter of Congreso para Pueblos
Unidos, read in full a resolution opposing the City's Resolution No. 3925, and
the removal of Thomas J. Calabrese from the position of City Manager.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
Minutes
July *16, 1979
July 17, 1979
July 23, 1979
July 30, 1979
Warrants
20000, 30003 through 30229
10000 through 10192
August 1, 1979 inclusive
Bids
Advertise for Bids to purchase aluminum wire, underground cable, submersible
transformers, and pole mount transformers - Electric Department.
Deeds
Daon Corporation - for sewer line.
Fredricks Development Corporation - for utility purposes.
*City Attorney Edwards took his place at the Council _table prior to approve of
the Consent Calendar.
Moved by Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilman Rehrer, to approve the Consent
Calendar.
