Unanimous vote. <br />MAYOR'S REPORTS AND PROCLAMATIONS: <br />Proclamation <br />National Library Week <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Proclamation honoring National Library Week, the week <br />of April 13 through April 19, 1980, which was accepted by Library Board Member, Dr. <br />Renald J. Anelle. <br />Proclamation <br />Colton Cavaliers Drill Team & Drum Squad <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Proclamation honoring the Colton Cavaliers Drill Team <br />and Drum Squad for their many achievements and the benefits the group provides to <br />the young people of the City of Colton. The Proclamation was accepted by the Captain <br />and other members of the Drill Team. <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br />Senior Citizens Project <br />City Manager Gonzales read a letter from a group of volunteer Senior Citizens, <br />Louise Broussard, Chairman; Art and Vi Crowley; Effie Botts; Mandy Karr; and <br />Esobel Boudreault, who have established a new project to help the elderly fight <br />inflation through purchase of produce at wholesale prices and are seeking the <br />cooperation of the City in this activity. <br />The letter stated that initial contacts had been made with the City Manager and <br />the Director of Recreation and Parks, and the group is now asking for a designated <br />area inside the Hutton Community Center to set up and operate the produce program <br />to better accommodate the elderly customers and protect them from the inclement <br />weather and hot summer months ahead. The group was also requesting a City truck <br />and driver to be furnished once every six weeks to make the trip into the Los Angeles <br />warehouse to pick up the produce. <br />Mayor Gonzales recommended this matter be referred back to Staff to study the possi- <br />bilities of this request. <br />Moved by Councilman Rehrer, seconded by Councilman Hayes, to refer this matter back <br />to Staff for study and report at the next regular Council Meeting.
