Mrs. Adele DeLeon stated she is responsible for this group being organized three 391
years ago, and advised the Council Members of all the many things this group has
done for the City, by furnishing both Centers with supplies and equipment, and all
they are asking is to use the Hutton Center for the produce program to keep the
senior citizens out of the bad weather, and also that the City furnish a truck and
driver every six weeks to pick up the produce.
Mrs. Louise Broussard also spoke on behalf of the Senior Citizens and the produce
program, asking the City Council's help in their endeavors. Mrs. Broussard said
don't forget about the older people, they have been here a long time.
Mr. Art Crowley stated that he drives his own truck to and from Los Angeles to pick
up the produce, and it was his understanding that this was brought to Staff's atten-
tion over two weeks ago, and it would seem as though something could be done this
evening.
Mr. Crowley advised that what is needed is to utilize the Hutton Center from 12:00
Noon to 3:00 p. m., on the first and third Tuesdays.
Councilman Temby asked the City Manager if some arrangements could be made for
these people to utilize the Center until something definite is decided.
City Manager Gonzales stated this could be arranged, if the Council consents to
(Y it, and allow the senior citizens to use the Center until the City Council makes
a decision on this matter.
Councilman Temby stated he realized that the request for the truck was a legal
matter and would have to be checked into, however, he felt the senior citizens
should be able to utilize the Hutton Center in the meantime.
After additional dicussion, moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman
Temby, directing the City Manager to work out the time element involved for use of
the Hutton Community Center by the senior citizens until such time as the City
Council makes a final decision on the total program as requested. Unanimous vote.
Mr. Wes Hayden, President of the Colton Chamber of Commerce, stated that the Chamber
of Commerce will pay for the gasoline for their next trip to Los Angeles.
PLANNING COMMISSION REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
VarianrPc
P. C. Res. No. 938
Planning Director Trevino reported on a Variance application requested by Glenn
Stanfill to reduce the required side yard setback from five feet to three feet
for an addition, consisting of approximately 750 square feet, to an existing
structure located at 1060 Valencia Drive.
Mr. Trevino advised that the Planning Commission held a public hearing on this
matter, March 25, 1980, and recommended approval of the Variance application, sub-
ject to six findings as listed in Planning Commission Resolution No. 938.
Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Mayor Gonzales, to approve Planning
Commission Resolution No. 938, including findings as listed therein. Vote was
unanimous.
Variances
P. C. Res. No. 939
Mr. Trevino read his memorandum regarding a Variance application requested by
Daniel Flores to delete required off-street parking in order to operate a fast
food, take out only, restaurant at 408 South La Cadena.
Mr. Trevino advised the floor area of the existing building is 390 square feet
and requires four parking spaces, however, Staff has found that many buildings in
this area do not have required off-street parking and that deletion of required
parking in this area would be unlikely to cause serious circulation and/or park-
ing problems.
Mr. Trevino concluded the Planning Commission, at a public hearing held March 25,
1980, recommended approval of the Variance application, subject to 7 findings and
2 conditions, as outlined in Planning Commission Resolution No. 939.
Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Hayes, to approve Planning
Commission Resolution No. 939, including findings and conditions as listed therein.
Vote was unanimous.
APR 1 1980
