440 Councilwoman Cisneros asked if anyone had contacted the senior citizen group with
regard to this insurance and the payment of the $100. Mrs. Cisneros was concerned
as to whether this group could afford the payment, and if this matter had been dis-
cussed with them.
Mrs. Mandy Karr, 1265-3/4 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Colton, stated she has assisted the
group with the sale of produce in the park on various occasions, and that there
are many senior citizens very upset about the use of the Community Center. Mrs.
Karr stated this sale of produce is not a money -making deal, and she was sure
there was no one among them that could afford to pay the $100 premium for insur-
ance.
Mayor Gonzales asked about Father Keane's offer to use Immaculate Conception Hall
for sale of the produce.
Recreation Director Max Lofy stated he had called Father Keane to confirm this, and
Father Keane told him that was correct, that he had offered the use of Immaculate
Conception Hall for the sale of their produce.
After additional discussion, Councilman Hayes offered to contact various organi-
zations in the City of Colton to see if he could raise the $100 needed for the
premium payment on the liability insurance for the senior citizen group.
Mr. William A. McCool, 1305 Mojave Drive, Colton, commended Councilman Hayes and
the City Council for their humanitarian efforts, and stated we are so close now
to getting this matter resolved, so lets get something started. Mr. McCool then
gave Councilman Hayes a $100 bill to pay the premium for the insurance.
Councilman Hayes gave the $100 to Mandy Karr for the senior citizen group.
Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Hayes, authorizing use of
Municipal Park twice a month for the sale of produce by the senior citizen group,
with the stipulation that liability insurance be purchased naming the City of Colton
as an added insured. Vote was unanimous.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Swimming Pool
Director of Building & Safety John Twiss spoke to the Council Members regarding the
opening of the new swimming pool, stating there were a few minor items to be com-
pleted, however, they are looking for an opening date of Friday, July 4, 1980, at
1:00 p. m., and all Council Members were invited to attend.
Mrs. Mandy Karr, 1265-3/4 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Colton, suggested to the City Council
and Staff that this new pool be well taken care of, and checked daily, or the same
thing will happen as it did to the old pool.
Community Centers
Ms. Millie Herrera, 1006 Western Avenue, Colton, spoke about the "Community" Centers,
not necessarily senior citizen centers, and the federal funding and federal regula-
tions allowing the construction of two centers in the City of Colton.
Personnel
Mr. Dennis A. Krueger, Attorney for Mr. Ray Lopez, asked for a determination on his
request for a public hearing before the Civil Service Board for his client.
City Attorney Edwards stated the City Council has adopted Resolution No. 4019-A, abol-
ishing the position and dismissing Mr. Lopez from employment, therefore, the request
has been denied.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
The City Council adjourned to Executive Session at 8:34 p.m., to discuss matters of
Litigation, and reconvened at 8:43 p.m., all Members present.
ADJOURNMFNT:
Moved by Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilwoman Garcia and unanimously passed,
Mayor Gonzales adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m., to meet for an Adjourned Regular
Meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 1980, at 6:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers.
J U L 1 1980
