<br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
<br />Sister City Program
<br />City Manager Elliott advised that some months ago members of the City
<br />Council and members of the Mayor's Steering Committee traveled to
<br />Mexico for the purpose of talking to some cities in Mexico, to inter-
<br />act with the City of Colton regarding a Sister City Program.
<br />Mr. Elliott stated he apologizes, in putting the program together, that
<br />Mr. Elliott continued that this morning he had
<br />received

<br />and it had fallen through because it was not handled correctly. Mr.
<br />Rios said he is in favor of having a Sister City Program as long as
<br />it will be handled correctly and it works. Mr. Rios stated he also
<br />did not understand how the City came up with this Steering Committee,
<br />he knew nothing about it either, however, inasmuch as these people from
<br />Puruandiro are on their way, he felt the City Council should do every-
<br />thing possible to host this group and look into the possibilities of be
<br />coming their Sister City. Mr. Rios concluded the only criticism he had
<br />was that this thing came on rather abruptly.

<br />Mayor Huntoon stated that he did not know about this
<br />particular City,
<br />however, the people that traveled to Mexico went on
<br />their own expense

<br />Councilman Rehrer to see if they knew anything about
<br />this City and the
<br />guests that would be arriving, and neither one knew
<br />anything about it.
<br />Mayor Huntoon said as he understands it, there will
<br />be a total of

<br />eight people arriving tomorrow, including the President
<br />of their Lions
<br />Club and Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor. Mayor
<br />Huntoon said he
<br />also understands their main purpose is to invite our
<br />City Council to
<br />visit their City, in the hopes of becoming our Sister
<br />City.

<br />After additional discussion, moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded
<br />by Councilman Rios, to approve Resolution No. 4588. Unanimous vote.

<br />with the Sister City
<br />Program, and advised that a resolution
<br />has been
<br />prepared for Council's
<br />consideration, which would
<br />authorize
<br />such ex-
<br />penditures. Mr. Edwards then read the resolution
<br />in full.

<br />stated the only concern she
<br />has with this
<br />reso-
<br />lution is the naming
<br />of a particular city involved
<br />with the
<br />Sister City
<br />Program, when the Council has not really made up their
<br />minds
<br />as to
<br />which city they will
<br />choose for their Sister City.
<br />Mayor Huntoon suggested removing the name "Puruandiro" and make the
<br />resolution a general resolution, outlining the expenditures only.
