TTF.MIR
Ministerial Association
Mayor Gonzales, together with Ray Gonzales, Human Services Department,
and Mitchell Chavez, bicyclist who rode from Hoover Dam in Nevada to
Colton to raise funds for the needy, presented a Holiday Fundraiser
Check to Pastor Jack Colburn and Father Michael McNally, of the Mini-
sterial Association.
Mayor Gonzales stated through the efforts of Mitchell. Chavez and the
community generosity, there is approximately $1,460 in donations for
the needy. Mayor Gonzales commended Mr. Chavez and the Human Services
Department for their efforts.
Pastor Coleburn thanked Mayor Gonzales for the donation, stating this
will certainly assist many needy families during the Holidays. Pastor
Coleburn expressed his gratitude to the City and Mr. Chavez.
City Manager Leslie Keane also advised that Holiday barrels will be
placed in various locations throughout the City for the donation of
toys, to be distributed to needy families and children.
PUBLIC HEARINGS:
Street Name Change
Mayor Gonzales declared the Public Hearing open.
Community Development Director Jaime Aguilera submitted the Affidavit
of Posting and reported that no protests or objections had been re-
ceived.
Mr. Aguilera reported on a request received from the American Legion,
Post No. 155, dated October 5, 1989, on a street name change from
Riverside Avenue to Veterans Way, which was submitted to the Design
Review Committee and Traffic Committee for comments prior to the
Planning Commission hearing. Both Committees recommended the request
be denied because there is no compelling safety issue which would re-
quire the change; there will be costs incurred by five City depart-
ments and countless other agencies that must change their maps and
files at their cost; and to change the street on this short section,
and not in its entirety, will cause confusion to emergency response
vehicles. The Committees also indicated that if the Planning Commission
considered approval of the street name change, the City would be better
served if the entire street was changed to avoid confusion.
Mr. Aguilera continued Riverside Avenue is bisected in three sections and
the Public Safety departments believe that to change the name of only
the center portion would cause problems for emergency response personnel.
DEC 5 1989
