Council Member Rios said he appreciated the aggressiveness of the 99 <br />Treasurer, however, the responsibility was assumed by Mr. Williams. <br />Council Member Rios asked if this were a part time job. <br />Mr. Williams replied he devoted whatever time is necessary to get the <br />job done right. <br />Mayor Gonzales felt the Council had given the City Treasurer direction <br />with regard to accounting recommendations made by Mr. Williams, so the <br />Treasurer did not assume the added responsibility on his own. <br />Moved by Council Member Cisneros, seconded by Council Member Rios, to <br />leave the budget as is. Upon Roll Call, the Vote was: AYES: Four; <br />Council Members Rios, Cisneros, Rehrer, Lofyl NOES: One; Mayor Gonzales. <br />Motion carried. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police Chief Connolly reported the following is requested above and <br />behond the base budget: <br />1. Five Police Vehicles in the amount of $75,000. <br />2. One additional Dispatcher. <br />3. One Contract Background Investigations Position. <br />4. DARE Program. <br />Lo 5. Custodial Services - Need one specific person assigned <br />0 to Police. <br />Moved by Council Member Rehrer, seconded by Council Member Rios, to <br />tentatively approve Police Budget as amended. Unanimous vote. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief Gemmell reported the following are his requests above and <br />beyond the base budget: <br />1. Hearing Protection Devices to protect hearing of employees. <br />Hearing loss had begun to show up on physicals. <br />2. Reorganization of Fire Department. <br />3. Additional Vehicle. <br />4. Full time Maintenance Person. <br />5. Additional Fire Hose Funding. <br />Moved by Council Member Rios, seconded by Council Member Rios to tenta- <br />tively approve the Fire Department Budget with the additiona of hearing <br />devices, reorganization, fire hoses and maintenance person. Unanimous <br />vote. <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: <br />Ms. Dena Smith, San Bernardino Public Employees Association Representative, <br />addressed the City Council with regard to reclassification of Wendy <br />Holland and Pan Likens. Ms. Smith stated the City Council had deferred <br />action on the reclassification pending budget consideration. <br />Mayor Gonzales thanked Ms. Smith for her appearance.
