Recom- <br />mend denial. <br />Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Rehrer, to approve <br />the Consent Calendar. Unanimous vote.' <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL REPORTS: <br />Resolutions of Recognition <br />Mayor Gonzales and Community Development Director Jaime ARuilera Pre- <br />sented Resolutions of Recognition to Carolina Torres, Susan Carr, Ruben <br />Colunga, Don Hines, Hazel Olsen and Victoria Valenzuela, members and <br />volunteers of the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission, for their <br />efforts and dedication to the preservation of Colton's history and his- <br />torical landmarks. Mr. Aguilera advised the City has contracted with <br />the consulting firm of Management Science Applications, Znc., to assist <br />in identifying buildings that will qualify as historical landmarks. <br />Ordinance No. 0-1-90 <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Petition, containing approximately 22 sig- <br />natures, requesting that the term of office for Mayor be amended from <br />a two year term to a four year term, and that a proposed Ordinance, <br />No. 0-1-90, be considered for submittal to the voters at the June <br />election. <br />Mayor Gonzales moved for First Reading of Ordinance No. 0-1-90, and <br />waive full reading. Motion died for lack of a second. <br />Mayor Gonzales stated the proposed Ordinance would be for any person <br />running for the office of Mayor. Mayor Gonzales stated that all of <br />the surrounding cities have elected Mayors serving four year terms, <br />and he felt it would be advantageous for the City of Colton to do the <br />same. Mayor Gonzales stated it becomes very costly for a candidate to <br />run for office every two years, and this also can be very disruptive <br />in the completion of projects and programs started in that two-year <br />period. <br />2 ;JaN 1 s logo <br />
