R-60-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON REPEALING RESOLUTION R-86-09 AND AMENDING THE CITY'S POLICY FOR THE NAMING OF CITY PARKS, PARK FEATURES AND COMMUNITY FACILITIES WHEREAS, the City of Colton provides numerous parks for recreation and leisure pursuits by its residents; and WHEREAS, the City maintains numerous community facilities open to the public; and WHEREAS, it may be appropriate from time to time to honor current or past residents, groups, or organizations by naming either parks, park features or community facilities in their honor. BE IT NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Policy. The City Council of the City of Colton hereby institutes the following policy for the naming and renaming of the City's existing and future parks, park features and community facilities: 1. Should a new park and/or a park feature be adjacent to a school, the school name shall receive consideration in the naming or renaming of the park or park feature. 2. Private individuals or companies donating park space of five (5) acres or more shall receive consideration in the naming or renaming of the park. 3. Only one park, park feature or community facility may be named or renamed for any one individual, group, or organization. 4. Names deemed appropriate for consideration shall be: A. The name of a distinguished local, state, or national figure, living or deceased, believed to merit recognition. B. A geographical name, such as "North," "South," etc. C. A name based on history, or the name of historical figures or activities. D. The name of a person, group, organization, or company that has made a monetary or charitable donation to the construction or design of City facilities, structures, buildings, or parklands.
