R-60-10 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON REPEALING <br />RESOLUTION R-86-09 AND AMENDING THE CITY'S POLICY FOR THE NAMING <br />OF CITY PARKS, PARK FEATURES AND COMMUNITY FACILITIES <br />WHEREAS, the City of Colton provides numerous parks for recreation and leisure <br />pursuits by its residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the City maintains numerous community facilities open to the public; and <br />WHEREAS, it may be appropriate from time to time to honor current or past residents, <br />groups, or organizations by naming either parks, park features or community facilities in their <br />honor. <br />BE IT NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. Policy. The City Council of the City of Colton hereby institutes the <br />following policy for the naming and renaming of the City's existing and future parks, park <br />features and community facilities: <br />1. Should a new park and/or a park feature be adjacent to a school, the school name <br />shall receive consideration in the naming or renaming of the park or park feature. <br />2. Private individuals or companies donating park space of five (5) acres or more <br />shall receive consideration in the naming or renaming of the park. <br />3. Only one park, park feature or community facility may be named or renamed for <br />any one individual, group, or organization. <br />4. Names deemed appropriate for consideration shall be: <br />A. The name of a distinguished local, state, or national figure, living or <br />deceased, believed to merit recognition. <br />B. A geographical name, such as "North," "South," etc. <br />C. A name based on history, or the name of historical figures or activities. <br />D. The name of a person, group, organization, or company that has made a <br />monetary or charitable donation to the construction or design of City facilities, structures, <br />buildings, or parklands. <br />
