PUBLIC WORKS WATER/WASTEWATER SUPERIENTENT CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />• Provide staff assistance and technical support to the Water, Wastewater, Parks, Streets <br />Building Maintenance and Auto Shop divisions; hire, evaluate and take disciplinary action as <br />necessary with division staff. <br />• Attend and participate in organizational and community meetings as necessary; stay current <br />on issues relative to the field of water quality and water treatment; respond to and resolve <br />community and organizational inquiries and complaints. <br />• Prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence to appropriate boards, <br />groups and/or committees. <br />• Attend meetings with the State Water Resources Control Board, Regional Water Quality <br />Board and EPA. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, <br />bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also <br />requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a <br />computer keyboard. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 50 <br />pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in <br />reading written reports and work related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing <br />phone and counter service. Position may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery <br />surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping <br />and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Also requires both <br />near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. Additionally, the <br />incumbent may perform outdoor functions in all weather conditions. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Public Works Water/Wastewater Superintendent. A typical way of <br />obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of seven (7) years of <br />increasingly responsible experience in a municipal Public Works or similar environment that <br />includes a minimum of two (2) years of management or supervisory experience. Incumbent must <br />also have a working knowledge of water and wastewater utility operations, contract <br />administration, and budget and financial management. A high school diploma or the equivalent <br />is required, supplemented by college level coursework in Public Works Management or a closely <br />related field. A related Bachelor's Degree is preferred. <br />License/Certificate: <br />• Possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license <br />• Possession of a California Department of Health Services Grade V Water Treatment <br />Operators Certification <br />• Possession of a California Department of Health Services Grade IV Water Distribution <br />Operator Certification <br />
