A sign on <br />which the message or characters change more than twelve times per <br />day shall be considered an animated sign and not a changeable copy <br />sign for purposes of this chapter. <br />"Channel letter sign" means a sign made up of individual letters <br />that are independently mounted to a wall or other surface. The "air <br />space" between the letters is not part of the sign structure but rather <br />the building facade. A logo may also be considered a channel letter <br />provided it is clearly distinguishable from other sign elements. <br />"City manager" means the city manager of the city of Colton or his <br />or her designee. <br />"Commercial message" means any sign, wording, logo, or other <br />representation that names or advertises a business, product, service, <br />or other commercial activity. <br />"Commercial flag" means a "banner." <br />"Community development director" means the community <br />development director of the city of Colton or his or her designee. <br />"Construction sign" means a temporary sign directly connected <br />with a construction project and may include the construction <br />company's name, addresses and telephone number. <br />"Copy" means the words, letters, numbers, figures, designs, or <br />other symbolic representations incorporated into a sign. <br />"Directional sign" means any sign intended to be permanently <br />affixed and utilized only for the purpose of indicating the direction <br />of any object, place, or area. <br />"Electronic reader sign" means a sign whose primary advertising <br />focus is the intermittent display, stream or movement of electronic, <br />computerized, digital or similarly produced letters, numerals, words <br />or messages as part of the advertising message. <br />"Field" means the part of the sign with no letters or logos. <br />"Freeway -oriented sign" means a sign, located on property which is <br />adjacent to a freeway and meant to be seen from the freeway. <br />"Frontage, public" means that side of a building facing onto a <br />public street, mall (pedestrian courtyard), or parking area. <br />"Frontage, street" means that side of a lot abutting a public street. <br />"Future tenant identification sign" means a temporary sign not <br />exceeding thirty-two square feet in area that identifies a future use <br />of a site or building. <br />"Grand opening sign" means a banner not exceeding thirty-two <br />23152.06300\6941313.1 <br />-3- <br />
