CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For City Council Meeting of July 18, 2000
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manage r
FROM: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director 5VN
SUBJECT: Approval of the Salary Resolution, Job Description and Ratification Of Employee
Appointment To The Full -Time Position Of Office Support Floater I in the Human
Resource Department And Creation Of A New Classification of Office Support Floater IL
DATE: July 10, 2000
BACKGROUND: In 1998 an Office Support Floater position was approved by the City Council to help defray
temporary agency costs and reduce the time spent on general training occurring with each "temp". The current
Office Support Floater has transferred to another City department creating a vacancy.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The Office Support Floater position has been very successful in providing a qualified
relief person trained in the general policies of the City, serving as back-up to the City Clerk's scanning program,
and providing a permanent back-up staff member to the City Clerk's Passport Program. After reviewing the value
of this position and the service provided to the City, a new "journey level" classification of Office Support Floater 11
is necessary to encourage longevity and recognize the variety of skills necessary in this position.
Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list established. The candidate chosen will meet
the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. This position will assist with the
temporary staffing needs of the City.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: No financial impact is expected. While this position is full time with benefits, the cost has
proven to be lower than the rate paid to temporary agencies for their services.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None
EXPECTED FILL DATE: August 21, 2000
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the salary resolution, job description,
recruitment and ratification of the employee appointment to the full-time position of Office Support Floater I as
recommended by the Human Resource Director and create a new "journey level" classification of Office Support
Floater 11.
PREPARED BY: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director
Attachment: Job Description
Salary Resolution
07/11/00
Adg 07 1 8M Offiec Sup,Fort Floater doe
Item #11
