R-54-98 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />COLTON APPOINTING A CITY ATTORNEY AND <br />ESTABLISHING A COMPENSATION CAP ON LEGAL <br />SERVICES <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton ("City") is authorized to adopt a <br />resolution appointing a city attorney who shall serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council on <br />such terms as may be set and agreed upon; and <br />WHEREAS, Government Code Sections 41801 et seMc . provide that the City Attorney <br />shall advise and represent City officials in all legal matters and litigation pertaining to the City's <br />business; and <br />WHEREAS, during past transition periods, the City Council has appointed various <br />individuals and law firms to serve as City Attorney; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council now determines it to be in the City's best interest to <br />appoint a permanent city attorney under the terms and conditions set forth in the agreement for legal <br />services attached hereto as Exhibit A; and to rescind all other resolutions or agreements appointing <br />other individuals or parties as city attorney; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has deemed that Best Best & Krieger LLP has the <br />requisite experience and skill to serve as City Attorney for the City of Colton, <br />RVPIMNSRC\43141 <br />
