District Honors Colton Citizens <br />On Friday, April 2, 1993, Colton residents Sal Rios and Ramon <br />Hernandez were honored by the California Parks and Recreation <br />Society - District Eleven at their annual awards dinner. <br />Mr. Rios and Mr. Hernandez, both long time canrnmity youth program <br />supporters, have been instrumental in the planning and <br />implementation of the Mayor's Ball amity fund raiser. This <br />unique event, which was co-sponsored by four Colton youth <br />baseball/softball leagues was held on April 10 and generated over <br />$25,000 for local youth programs. <br />Mr. Rios is currently Treasurer of the Ken Hubbs Little League and <br />was President of Colton Youth Soccer for three years. He also has <br />recently been re -appointed to the Parks and Recreation ccmnission <br />for the City of Colton. <br />Mr. Hernandez, who is currently President of the Carl Rimbaugh <br />Girls Softball League is also Chairman of the Community Action Task <br />Force on gangs. <br />Both of these outstanding citizens were acknowledged not only for <br />their participation, but for their ability to manage volunteer <br />programs successfully. The Carl Rimbaugh Girls Softball program <br />faced tremendous financial difficulties when Mr. Hernandez took <br />over the leadership two years ago. Throw his efforts, and as he <br />acknowledges the work of his board, in those two short years Mr. <br />Hernandez was able to bring the softball league into the black <br />financially. <br />
