0 <br />For Council Meeting of May 18, 1993 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: May 13, 1993 <br />FROM: JERRY YOUNG <br />Interim City Managi <br />SUBJECT: Supporting the City of Colton's Role as the Lead Agency in Administering the Memorandum <br />of Understanding for Construction of Infrastructure Public Improvements Between the County <br />of San Bernardino and the City of Colton. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The County of San Bernardino is presently undertaldng a program to replace the existing County Medical <br />Center. The new facility is to be constructed in the City of Colton, in the vicinity of Valley Boulevard, <br />Pepper, Meridian and San Bernardino Avenues. <br />The County wishes to provide for certain reimbursements to the City of Colton in order to facilitate <br />construction within the City and to further provide for the cooperation of the County and the City in carrying <br />out construction of certain public improvements appurtenant to and of benefit to the County's Medical Center. <br />DISCUSSION <br />By supporting the Memorandum of Understanding the City of Colton will derive the following benefits which <br />are in addition to the normal economic benefits associated with the development of a large Medical Center. <br />The benefits are as follows: <br />Land at the Northeast comer of Pepper and San Bernardino Avenues will be donated to the City for a new Fire <br />Station. Monies to build and equip the new Fire Station will be provided by the County to the City. <br />The County's contribution of funds to build the necessary public improvements in the vicinity of Valley <br />Boulevard, Pepper, Meridian and San Bernardino Avenues will be paid to the City upfront, 'with all earned <br />interested going to, the City of Colton. <br />RECONIMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the Council support the City of Colton's role as the lead agency in administering the <br />Memorandum of Understanding for Construction of Infrastructure Public Improvements Between the County <br />of San Bernardino and the City of Colton. <br />Attachments (1) <br />CAwpwin\wW1893.aSr <br />
