GARCIA, CITY MANAGElili <br />FROM: AL HOLLIMAN, FINANCE DIRECTOR, <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO <br />THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF SENIOR OFFICE SPECIALIST IN THE FINANCE <br />DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: JULY 20, 1999 <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Administrative Secretary position in the Finance Department is currently vacant. Upon analyzing the <br />necessary duties of this position in the Finance Department, it has been determined that the functions can be <br />accomplished by a Senior Office Specialist position. Attached is the job description for the classification; salary <br />range is $2,107 - $2,561 per month. <br />DISCUSSIONIANALYSIS <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list established upon Council approval. The <br />candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. The <br />Senior Office Specialist position is a downgrade from the budgeted Administrative Secretary position in the <br />department. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />This is a General Fund position and is funded for the 1999-2000 fiscal year in the following accounts: 100-6040- <br />6041-1010 (salary) and 100-6040-6041-1100 (benefits). The total annual budgeted amount for salary and <br />benefits is $39,329, based upon the Administrative Secretary position. By staffing the position with a Senior <br />Office Specialist, budget savings of approximately $5,000 per annum are anticipated. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />It is recommended that Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the employee appointment to the full- <br />time position of Senior Office Specialist as recommended by the Finance Director. <br />Attachments: Job Description <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />Item #11 <br />
