CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR4-:1-1 SUBJECT: APPROVE REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENTS TO THE FULL TIME POSITION OF WATER MAINTENANCE WORKER 11 AND STORMWATER MAINTENANCE WORKER 11 IN THE UTILITY DEPARTMENT DATE: AUGUST 3,1999 BACKGROUND: In the FY99-00 Utility Department's Budget, there are six (6) Maintenance Worker 1/11 positions. Currently there are two vacancies: one in the Water Department; and, one in the Stormwater Department. Attached is the job description of the classification; the salary range is $1,928 to $2,345 per month. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Recruitment for said positions needs to be conducted and an eligibility list established. The candidates chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding availability for this position is contained in the Enterprise Fund of the FY99-00 Water Budget as follows: Account No. 521-8100-8101-1010 (salary) and Account No. 521-8100-8101- 1100 (salary related benefits); and in the FY99-00 Stormwater Budget as follows: Account No. 722-8200-8215-1010 (salary) and Account No. 722-8200-8215-1100 (salary related benefits) EXPECTED FILL DATE: October 4, 1999. CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: The Water Division's position will be responsible for the maintenance, repairs and upkeep of the Water System. The Stormwater Division's position will be responsible for storm drain maintenance. The positions are required in order to meet Federal and State regulations. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that Council approve the ratification of the employee appointments to the two (2) full-time positions of Maintenance Worker 1/11 in the Utility Department.
