CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For City Council Meeting of January 19, 1999
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: HENRY GARCIA, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PATRICK , CHIEF OF POLICE
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND RELEASING GRANT FUNDS
DATE: JANUARY 5, 1999
BACKGROUND: As part of the Regional Juvenile Crime Enforcement Coalition, the City of
Colton is entitled to certain funds through the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant
(JAIBG). This fiscal year the amount is $14,201.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The JAIBG program is intended to provide units of local
government with funds to develop programs that promote greater accountability in the juvenile
justice system. The Law Enforcement Education Partnership Committee (LEEP) has requested
that the City of Colton support and refer our portion of these funds to the Coalition. These
funds, when combined with the other cities within our county will total $697,006. This will hire
an additional Juvenile Traffic Hearing Officer, twelve additional probation officers and one
supervising probation officer. The Colton Police Department has a close working relationship
with these units and, in fact, places high demands on their resources.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: This is not a project affecting the City of Colton pursuant to
the California Environital act.
FINANCIAL IMP
Patrick G. C owe, Chief of Police
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council considers adopting this resolution in support
of the Law Enforcement Education Partnership Committee.
Attachment: Resolution
JAIBG.doc rw
Item # 17
