These grant funds
will be utilized to maintain and upgrade the library's automated book check out system;
continue the library's computer literacy program; purchase new carpet, flooring, and paint for
the Main Library; and purchase library materials.
DISCUSSION /ANALYSIS
The Colton Public Library recognizes that a need exists to maintain and upgrade its current
automated book check out system. By utilizing State Library Grant Funds for this purpose,
library customers are able to access all library books and materials at both the Main and Luque
Branch facilities via up-to-date computer terminals. This provides the citizens of Colton with the
efficient library services they deserve. There is also a need to replace the 16 -year old carpet
and flooring at the Main Library, continue the Library's computer literacy program, and purchase
additional much needed library books and materials.
ALTERNATIVES
Without State Library Grant Funds, the library's automated book check out system and other
services could only otherwise be maintained with City General Fund monies.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
No cost to the City. Increase revenue accoun7 211-5772 by $30,000 and increase expenditure
appropriation account 211-7100-7104-2302 by $30,000. A AO /j /J Z
David Michael Davis, City Librarian
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council authorize the City to accept an additional $30,000 in State
Library Grant Funds and to amend the adopted budget for FY 1999/2000.
ATTACHMENT: RESOLUTION Item #7
