CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of March 7, 2000
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGER(
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTO, "i 6 w 7

SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 TO THE KRIEGER &
STEWART DESIGN CONTRACT FOR WATER AND SEWER LINE
REPLACEMENTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $200,000 FOR THE DESIGN
OF ADDITIONAL WATER AND SEWER LINE REPLACEMENTS AND
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION; AND APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION
ALLOCATING ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR SEWER LINE
REPLACEMENTS
DATE: FEBRUARY 16, 2000
BACKGROUND:
At the August 3, 1999 Council meeting, Council awarded the design contract for water
and sewer line replacements to Krieger & Stewart in the amount of $162,200. On
September 7, 1999 Council approved Change Order No. 1 increasing the contract by
$22,100 to include the replacement of additional water and sewer lines. The addition
of these lines provided better continuity to the overall project, and in some instances
both water and sewer lines were replaced in the same streets.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
APPROVED WATER AND SEWER LINE REPLACEMENT PROJECT:
The original proposal from Krieger and Stewart did not include construction inspection,
however, due to the overall size of the project, the Utility Director requested Krieger &
Stewart's assistance for providing construction inspection and engineering support
services for the sewer lines. The cost for these services are estimated at $122,500 for
approximately six months of service. In addition, previously unknown underground
interference required redesign of some of the water lines installed. The water line
redesign cost is $8,800.
WATER AND SEWER LINES FOR NORMAN ROAD:
Staff had scheduled Norman Road, from Olive Street north to Laurel Street, for water
line replacement and the installation of new sewer lines during the initial project design.
However, due to the complexity of the new sewer line installation, it was decided to
proceed with the project at mid -year.
Item #16
