Item #19
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 3, 2002
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER A
SUBJECT: FINAL ACCEPTANCE / NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THREE (3)
TRAFFIC SIGNAL PROJECT AT RECHE CANYON ROAD/SHANE
DRIVE -MOBILE HOMES, RECHE CANYON ROAD/TOPANGA
AND HUNTS LN./COOLEY LN. INTERSECTIONS — SIERRA
PACIFIC ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING
DATE: NOVEMBER 21, 2002
The Three (3) Trak Signal Project is located at the intersections of Reche Canyon Road/Shane
Drive -Mobile Homes Entrance, Reche Canyon Road/Topanga Way and Hunts Lane/Cooley Lane.
Construction included the installation of signal poles and mast arms, signal controllers, video
detection cameras, installation of necessary road signs, road markings and concrete sidewalk to
meet ADA requirements.
The original contract in the amount of $279,152.00 was awarded at the regularly scheduled Council
Meeting of May 21, 2002. A total amount of $7,737.69 was added to the total contract amount as
Change Orders Number 1 and 2 (attached as Exhibit "A"). These Change Orders were due to signal
pole replacement and modification, change of point of electrical connection at Reche Canyon
Road/Topanga Way intersection as required by Electric Department and sidewalk restoration and
repair to meet ADA requirements. The pole modification was necessary to avoid relocation of
Edison's cable to meet clearance requirement on Hunts Lane/Cooley Lane and Reche Canyon
Road/Shane Drive -Mobile Homes intersections. Due to this pole modification, an estimated amount
of $30,000.00 was saved on both intersections. Negotiations with Edison and pole modification, in
addition to the breakdown of one of the controller during the testing, are some of the reasons for the
delay in completion of this project. The actual project cost is $286,889.69.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
The contractor has completed the work, as specified in the contract and satisfied all requirements.
