Item #4 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF FEBRUARY 18, 2003 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO AWARD A CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTRACT FOR THE DAVIS PARK RESTROOM AND PARK <br />IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 266,191.00 TO <br />THE CONSTRUCTION FIRM OF TERRA -CAL CONSTRUCTION, <br />INC. AS THE LOWEST RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER <br />DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On December 3, 2002, the City Council authorized the Engineering Department to solicit public <br />bids for construction of the Elizabeth Davis Park Restroom and Park Improvements Project. The <br />scope of work for this project includes removal and replacement of existing asphalt surrounding <br />the baseball field bleacher area, construction of handicap accessible public restrooms, installation of <br />water, drainage and sewer laterals for the proposed restrooms, miscellaneous electrical work, <br />installation of drinking fountain and concrete handicap ramp at parking lot entrance. <br />The plans, contract documents and specifications were prepared Gary Miller and Associates, Inc. <br />and found in compliance by the City staff for City of Colton standard requirements. <br />Advertisement for Public Bidding for this project began on December 18, 2002 and the Bid <br />Opening was conducted on February 6, 2003. Staff received formal proposals from eight (8) <br />Engineering Finns as follows with their corresponding bid amount: <br />1. Terra -Cal Construction, Inc. $ 266,191.00 <br />2. B. E. Mc Murray Construction, Inc. $ 284,140.00 <br />3. Gledson-Cashman Construction, Inc. $ 287,922.20 <br />4. ASR Constructors, Inc. $ 333,999.61 <br />5. Hi Desert Construction $ 341,977.00 <br />6. M.R. Bracey Construction Company, Inc. $ 388,750.26 <br />7. Zondiros-Peninsula Landscaping $ 403,925.00 <br />8. Vido Samarzich, Inc. $ 413,787.50 <br />
