_ CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of Feb. 6, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Gale A. Dtews, Electric Utility Director i
SUBJECT: CUSIK1,W SERVICE POLICY REVISIONS RE "ING FEES IN Date: 1/9/90
POLICY NO. 20 AND POLICY NO. 22, AND FOR AN
ADDITIONAL ALLOCATION 7O "LIFE SUPPORT" HO(JSEHOLDS
Revisions to Electric Utility Customer Service Policy No. 20, No.
22, and "Life -Support" are proposed.
Customer Service Policy No. 20
It is proposed that Customer Service Policy No. 20, Extension of
Lines, be revised by adding "Section G. Engineering and Plan Check
Fees: 11 to page 42 of the current Policy. The practice of the
Electric Department has been to charge $10.00 for checking for
meter locations and changing services at existing residences.
Subsection 1 would increase the charge to $15.00. The practice of
the Electric Department has been to charge a minimum of $50.00 for
plan check and engineering services. Subsection 2 would increase
the minimum charge to $70.00. These proposed cost increases result
from average cost of staff time to complete the work.
Customer Service Policy No. 22
It is proposed that Customer Service Policy No. 22 be revised by
establishing a fixed fee of $800.00 per marbelite standard to be
charged to the developer or owner. Current policy is to base unit
charges on "the estimated or actual installation cost as determined
at the time of development by the City of Colton Utility". The
revision is proposed to reduce the cost of staff time to calculate
unit costs for each street light. Variations in unit costs are not
substantial, but cause the Electric Department to either refund or
bill customers an additional amount based on actual final cost.
The proposed revision will avoid this cumbersome process and help
to reduce Department operating costs.
Customer Service Policy on "Life -Support"
Currently, the Customer Service Policy of the Electric Department
provides for an additional low block quantity of electricity to
residential electric customers where a full-time resident requires
use of life support equipment that requires electricity.
Attachments:
Page 1 of ---2
ORIGINAL Item No.
CENTRAL RECORDS
FILE NO. _Z-
/ to
