CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of. <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />June 5, 1990 <br />FROM: Jennifer Thornberry, Economic Development Director <br />SUBJECT:Appointment of Council Member as Vice -President of Date: May 30, 1990 <br />Inland Empire Design Institute <br />The County of San Bernardino and eight Inland Empire cities is one of 36 <br />areas across the United States participating in the "Shaping Growth in <br />American Com-nunities Project", a national demonstration effort sponsored <br />by the Washington, DC. -based Partners for Livable Places. <br />The overall goals of the project are to improve the quality of life for <br />the region through amenities and aesthetics, in an effort to mitigate <br />the negative impacts of high growth. <br />The Shaping Growth Project consists of the following three sub -elements: <br />1. Greening of the Empire <br />The goals of the "greening" project includes the development of <br />expanded tree plantings and greenways for new developments, higher <br />landscape standards in the proposed County Growth Management Plan, <br />and mass volunteer efforts. <br />2. Inland Empire Design Institute <br />The Design Institute will provide a forum for the discussion of <br />architectural and urban design issues which impact the counties of <br />Riverside and San Bernardino. The Institute will also undertake <br />research relating to architectural and urban design issues and <br />publish information for the benefit of concerned design <br />professionals, the development community, governmental authorities, <br />civic groups, and the general public. <br />3. Beautification of the I-10 Freeway Corridor <br />The I-10 Freeway beautification project is proposed to improve the <br />appearance of the freeway frontage with alternative landscaping. <br />The project will involve regional intergovernmental cooperation in <br />an effort to beautify a gateway corridor into the Inland Empire <br />region. <br />Attachments: <br />Page 1 of Item No. JAI <br />
