CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of May 5, 1992 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL A DATE: APRIL 29, 1992 <br />FROM: GORDON R. JOHNSON, Personnel Director �9, <br />SUBJECT: <br />IN JOB CLASSIFICATIONS REPRESENTED BY INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF <br />FIREFIGHTERS (IAFF), LOCAL 935, FIRE UNIT OF THE CITY OF COLTON <br />BACKGROUND <br />The last Firefighters' MOU expired on December 20, 1991. We have been in <br />meet and confer with Local 935's representatives since December 16, 1991, and <br />have tentatively agreed to a successor MOU which would be in effect through <br />December 31, 1994. The Fire Unit employees have scheduled a ratification <br />meeting for April 29. To become effective, the MOU must also be approved by <br />Council. Below is a summary of the new terms of the proposed MOU: <br />1. TERM - 3 years <br />2. SALARIES - the City agrees to meet and confer with Local 935 to consider <br />salary increases for 1993 and 1994. Only the cities of Rialto, <br />Redlands, Chino, Upland, Montclair and Rancho Cucamonga shall be <br />included in any future salary/compensation surveys. <br />3. HOLIDAYS <br />A. Shift personnel shall receive an additional shift (24 hours) annually <br />beginning July 1, 1992. <br />B. Non -shift personnel shall receive two additional 10 -hour holidays, <br />Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. <br />C. Shift personnel using holiday leave must take it in increments of one <br />hour or more. <br />4. PERS RETIREMENT - during an employee's final year of employment, he/she <br />may convert to salary any items permitted by PERS. <br />5. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE - spouse's grandparent has been added to codify past <br />practice previously approved by the City Council. <br />6. SEPARATE CHECKS - shall be issued for uniform allowance, paramedic <br />recertification bonus, and holiday buyback. <br />7. CONSOLIDATED LEAVE LANGUAGE - all relevant language from the Personnel <br />Rules and Regulations concerning vacations, holidays and sick leave is <br />incorporated in the new MOU. After all 6 MOUS are approved by Council, <br />we will ask that these sections be removed from the Rules and <br />Regulations. <br />
