CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF August 5, 2003 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: CITY MANAGER DARYL PARRISH <br />SUBJECT: SISTER CITY: RIO GRANDE, ZACATECAS, MEXICO <br />DATE: August 5, 2003 <br />INI-UKMA I IUNAL ITEM <br />On July 5, 2002, the cities of Colton and Rio Grande (Zacatecas, Mexico) officially became sister city affiliates. <br />The attached agreement was officially signed (by both cities) in the interest of promoting commerce, <br />investment, education, culture and tourism and to also strengthen and encourage our international relations. <br />Since becoming sister cities, Rio Grande delegates have traveled to Colton on two occasions, to attend our <br />City events. As we remain focused on maintaining our ties with Rio Grande, initial communications have been <br />made with Mayor Joe Manuel Pena-Badillo and the Mexican Consulate, and tentative plans are being <br />discussed for Colton officials to travel to Rio Grande. Mayor Pena-Badillo will fax an itinerary of planned <br />events, which thus far, includes: <br />• City parade <br />• Public Recognition <br />• Reception & Round Table Discussion <br />• Key to City <br />• Tour of City & surrounding areas <br />• Visit Governor's Palace (Zacatecas, Mexico) <br />Proposed Travel Dates: Sept. 14 — 17, 2003 <br />Estimated Travel Costs Per Traveler: <br />Airfare: $ 500 (Los Angeles to Zacatecas) <br />Shuttle to airport: $ 60 (Ontario to Los Angeles) (** add $7 for each additional person) <br />Hotel: $ -0- (accommodations are compliments of the City of Rio Grande) <br />Ground Transp: $ -0- (accommodations are compliments of the City of Rio Grande) <br />Per Diem: $ 184 ($46 x 4 days) <br />Passport $ 97 (4 — 6 weeks normal process) submit a plication bv: Au_aust 6 2003 <br />Total $ 841 <br />Passport (additional) $ 43.65 (2 weeks, expedited process) submit aaclication by: August 28, 2003 <br />Total $ 884.65 <br />AI's Garden Art is committed to providing an art piece representative of the City.
