COLTON CITY COUNCIL
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
and
JOINT MEETING WITH UTILITIES COMMISSION
MINUTE69
An adjourned regular meeting from January 16, 1996 of the Colton City Council
and a joint meeting with the Utilities Commission and the Colton City Council was
held in the Council Chambers of City Hall on the above given date starting at 6:05
p.m., with Mayor Fulp presiding.
FLAG SA
Mayor Fulp led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present were Council Member John C. Hutton, Council Member David Sandoval,
Council Member Betty L. Cook, Council Member Deirdre Bennett, Council Member
Donald Sanders, Council Member Abe E. Beltran, and Mayor George V. Fulp. Also
present were City Attorney Biggs, City Manager Nabar Enrique Martinez, Deputy
City Clerk Teresa Delgado.
Roll was not called for Utilities Commission.
PUBLIC COMMENT
SANrrATioN DEPARTwNT
Tom Ramsey, employed by the San Bernardino Public Employees Association, San
Bernardino, expressed his concern regarding the shortage of sanitation and
recycling staff. He said due to vacant driver positions, a number of trucks are not
out collecting refuse and the remaining truck drivers have had to pick up the extra
load, resulting in an enormous amount of overtime, as well as tired and stressed
out employees. Mr. Ramsey requested that City Council direct Personnel Director
to conduct an immediate recruitment to fill those vacancies. He requested in the
interim, that temporary help be hired. Mr. Ramsey submitted pictures
documenting the refuse problem in Colton. Discussion followed.
This being a health and safety issue, motion was made by Council Member
Sandoval and seconded by Mayor Fulp to add this item to the current agenda as
an emergency item, with Council Member Sanders voting " No."
CiTy CouNcm MEETiNG - JArwARY 24,1996 PAGE I
