ADJOURNED REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING OCTOBER 1, 1 996 In accordance with notice duly and legally given, an Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton was held on the above given date at 6:00 P.M., in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Mayor Fulp presiding. FLAG SALUTE: Mayor Fulp led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. INVOCATION: Chaplain Ed List offered the invocation. ROLL CALL: Councilmembers present were Hutton, Bennett, Cook, Sanders, Beltran, and Mayor Fulp. Also present were City Attorney Biggs, City Manager Freeman, and Interim City Clerk Delgado. Mayor Pulp stated that Councilmember Hansen was absent as he was out of town. MAYOR ANE? COUNCIL ITEMS: Presentations, Awards, Proclamations Mayor Fulp introduced the School Superintendent for the Colton School District, Dr. Herbert Fischer who spoke on the state of the Colton School District. Dr. Fischer thanked the Colton Police Department in the administration of the following: School Crossing Guard Program, School Resource Officer Program, and for conducting the City-wide Truancy sweep. He provided the following statistics: College -bound student rate has increased from 16% in .1992 to 51 % in 1995; 20 out of 27 schools are hooked to the Internet; two schools, Grant and Lincoln, are now using uniforms which has been received with positive reaction; and the implementation of the reduction in class size 20 students to 1 teacher on the first grade level. Next year, this plan will be implemented in the Second grade level. fie reported on the following future projects: looking for 40 acres to build a third high school; 7 acres are located by the new County Hospital and hoping to develop and move the administration center to this location and free up the current center for use by the Colton Middle School. The dedication of the Mike De Arcy School is scheduled for October 17, 1996 and invitations will be sent to the all the Councilmembers. DCT 1 11991S
