CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 7, 1997 <br />A Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton was held on the above -given date at <br />6:07 P. M., in the Council Chambers at City Hall, Mayor Gaytan presiding. <br />FLAG SALUTE: <br />Mayor Gaytan led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. <br />INVOCATION: <br />Invocation was offered by Chaplain Kim Starr. <br />ROLL CALL: <br />Present were Councilmember Don Sanders, Councilmember John Hutton, Councilmember Kelly <br />Chastain, Councilmember Betty Cook, Councilmember Deirdre Bennett, Councilmember David <br />Sandoval and Mayor Karl Gaytan. Also present were City Manager Freeman, City Attorney <br />Biggs and Deputy City Clerk Delgado, Absent due to illness was City Clerk Barrera. <br />RECOGNITION AND AWARDS: <br />Mayor Gaytan recognized the presence of Attorney Don Alvarez, Member of the School Board, <br />Mr. Barry Pullium from the County Superintendent of Schools and Mr. Aldrin Brown from The <br />Sun. <br />Councilmember Sanders presented certificates to the members of "No Fear," a champion soccer <br />team, who won the Commissioners Cup: Tawney Serrano, Alyssa Ramirez, Morgan Peterman, <br />Christina Menodza, Vanessa Martinez, Candace Gonzales, Lila Duenez, Gina Bautista, Genela <br />Bautista, Briana Alden, Stacia Guillen, and Assistant Coaches David. Peterman and Raquel <br />Serrano and Head Coach John Bautista. <br />Firefighter Brent Bailey invited everyone to the Firefighters Ball, planned for February 22, 1997, <br />at the Radisson Hotel, to recognize all firefighters in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. <br />Monies from this fundraiser will go to their fund, "Firefighters Care." <br />Mayor and Council Items <br />DTPA Grant <br />Mayor Gaytan advanced Item 21 for presentations by Keith Leigh, from JTPA and GAIN, and <br />Barry Pullium from County Superintendent of Schools Office. <br />Mayor Gaytan received consensus of Council to join other agencies and move forward on a grant <br />proposal to commence Phase I of a program, as part of the Welfare Reform Act, to focus on at <br />risk children, ages 14 to 17, who are in alternative programs and who come from families on some <br />
