Item #12
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 7, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Al Holliman, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Consider and Approve Reclassification Changes to Accommodate a City -
Wide Reorganization
DATE: July 30, 2001
BACKGROUND:
A City-wide reorganization plan has been proposed that includes reclassification and/or re -titling of
some positions within various City departments. This request has been reviewed by the Assistant
City Manager and approved by the City Manager.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The City Manager has been evaluating the organizational structure of the City. One of the goals of
his analysis is to provide a better nexus between management responsibilities, numbers of staff
supervised, exempt status (from FLSA and/or bargaining units) and executive status or mid -
management status.
As a result of these efforts, seven positions are proposed for reclassification with salary adjustments
where appropriate and some bargaining unit changes. The proposed salary adjustments will include
a 10% increase to the Public Services Manager position, a 5% increase to the Risk Manager
position, a 7.79% increase to one Executive Assistant position and a 5% differential to the
Executive Assistant position in the City Council Office. All other positions will not have increases
to the salary schedule at this time.
