ACEVEDO Finance Director SUBJECT: Approval to Purchase Police Patrol Vehicles Using San Bernardino County Contract With Prestige Ford of San Gabriel, California: BACKGROUND: On December 9, 1992, 1 received a memorandum from Captain Lunsford at the Police Department outlining a proposal to purchase six (6) black and white patrol vehicles. He suggested we wait for San Bernardino County to bid for their annual police vehicle requirement and use their successful bidder. We will realize savings from the County's large quantity buy. The City Manager and myself agree with the concept and last year's requirements were purchased in the same manner. DISCUSSION: The San Bernardino County bid No. A-34 was let on January 5, 1993 to Prestige Ford of San Gabriel, California, the successful bidder. The base bid for the vehicles was $12,851.65 but this is for the plain white vehicles normally purchased by the County. With the deletion of anti-lock brakes and addition of black and white paint, power door locks, rear locks and handles removed and power window operation from the front of the vehicle only, our price will be $13;077.65 each. The total price of the six vehicles will be $84,547.01, sales tax included. I sent our specifications to the local Ford dealer for a quotation on the six vehicles. They would be $30,750.77 higher for thesixvehicles than using the County contract price. Delivery time will be 100-150 days after receipt of the order. Funds are available in Auto Equipment (01-2002-91, $40,000.00); and Asset Seizure (61-6100-40, $44,547.01). RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that approval be given to purchase the six black and white patrol vehicles from the San Bernardino County contract with. Prestige Ford ata total price of $84,547.01.
