CITY OF COLTON
MEMORANDUM
Office of the Mayor and Council
Date: December 28, 1998
To: Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers
From: Councilmember Donald J. Sanders for Donald J. Sanders
Subject: Establish Procedure to Waive Trash Fees Charged to Property Owners with
Vacant Properties
CITY COUNCIL MEE'T'ING OF JANUARY 5, 1999
Please refer to the attached letter from a Colton property owner inquiring about waiving trash
fees during the time her home is vacant (unoccupied). In reviewing the City's existing policy, I
found that it does not service the needs of absent property owners that want to maintain the
appearance and security of their unoccupied homes. Therefore, I formally request that the City
use a common sense approach and look into the feasibility of establishing a procedure to waive
trash fees charged to absent property owners desiring to preserve, maintain and secure their
unoccupied properties.
Accordingly, I ask for the Council's consideration and consensus in directing staff to modify the
language of the City's policy, Colton Municipal Code, Chapter 6.16 Garbage and Refuse
(attached). City staff shall present a comprehensive report to Council for discussion and possible
action. Thank you for your consideration and consensus on this matter.
DJS:adf
Attachments
