CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF August 2, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Kenneth E. Rulon, Chief of Police
ITEM #10
SUBJECT: Approve and Adopt a part-time salary resolution for Stenographers
DATE: July 25, 2005
BACKGROUND:
Currently the Colton Police Department employs four Police Stenographers who are assigned
part-time to the Administrative Services Division. The Police Stenographer position has not had a
salary increase since August 1999.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Stenographers' responsibilities include the typing and processing of all taped police reports in the
department. These reports are normally submitted to the San Bernardino District Attorney's
Office for review within certain time constraints as needed. In the recently adopted 2005/2006
Budget, the police department budgeted an hourly rate increase for each of the Stenographers to
$15.00 per hour. The current rate is $13.00 an hour. The proposed compensation increase is fair
for the work these employees contribute towards our organizational goals. The smooth
processing of police reports is important to providing quality customer service to the community
we serve.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The maximum financial impact of the part-time salary increase through June 30, 2006 is
approximately $ 8,000.00. The increase has been approved and budgeted in the 2005/2006
Fiscal year budget under account # 100-6070-6071-1041.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the attached part-time salary resolution amendment
effective the pay period beginning July 1St, 2005.
Attachment:
Prepared by: Bob Miller, Police Lieutenant
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
qzl
City Attorneyk—1 . l C
r
City Manager: cC It`.
Finance Director: lb J-)-f--ptcvIS 1 UkL
OTHER:
