386 Mr. Bjorklund also asked Cit Manager City g Gonzales if Jerry Young will be the next
Finance Director for the City.
City Manager Gonzales replied that the City Manager Ordinance states that the
City Manager has the authority to appoint department heads for the City, which
appointments are then ratified by the City Council. Mr. Gonzales said the City
is now in the process of recruiting for a Finance Director, however, a decision
has not yet been made.
Councilman Rehrer referred to the comment made that only Mayor Gonzales and Council-
man Hayes made themselves available for questions or comments. Mr. Rehrer continued
that he has never been called by Mr. Bjorklund for any comments, answers to questions,
etc., and he felt that Mr. Bjorklund was being unfair to the City Council with the
statement that he had made. Mr. Rehrer said that every member of this Council is
available to the constituency, and if we are not available, then we do not belong in
this position.
Mr. Bjorklund stated that he has asked direct questions this evening and has not
gotten the answers, and he is quoting remarks that were made in the newspapers by
the Council Members.
Mr. Bjorklund concluded that this whole thing has been very demoralizing for every-
one, including the citizens of Colton, and asked that the City Council not forget
about their community in all of this confusion, confrontation, contradiction and
contrivances that has surrounded City Hall in the last eight months.
ADJOURNMENT:
Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Hayes and unanimously passed,
Mayor Gonzales adjourned the meeting at 8:24 p. m.
HELEN A.
